Day 19 - Tragic

As part of our weekly homework, we are asked to watch a documentary film. This week it was Earthlings, a feature film about our dependence on animals and our cruelty in that relationship. I am not about to join PETA and I am not necessarily going back to being a vegetarian, although it will be hard to eat meat without thinking about this movie. It was Planet Earth meets slasher film, lots of blood, gore, and very hard evidence that animals do indeed feel pain and that the stun gun to the head does not make their slaughter any easier or less painful (actually many of them are not even dead as they move along the assembly line). However, the cruelty against animals goes far beyond slaughterhouses and overcrowded chicken coops. There are several ways to help animals that do not involve giving up your steak (although you could always try it). Here are a few websites to explore:

Cows are Cool (Leather awareness)
Stop Dolphin Massacres
Save the Circus Animals
Support Cruelty Free Products (you would be surprised at all of the companys that test on animals, including neutrogena, Johnson and Johnson, Unilever etc. All products tested on animals will later need to be tested on humans anyway!!)
Stop Shark Finning (This is my BIG cause, watch this movie please!)
